Revolut grows by entering new countries with a core multi-currency account, then adding local licences, credit and wealth products. Its September 2025 plan committed $13 billion over five years, including about $4 billion in the UK, and aimed at 100 million customers by mid-2027. In 2026 it is focused on UK lending after the full licence, a US bank charter, Latin America (Mexico, Colombia, Peru) and India.
Revolut runs a freemium model. The Standard account is free; paid plans (Plus, Premium, Metal and Ultra, roughly £3.99 to £55 a month in the UK) add higher limits, insurance and travel perks. Revenue comes from several roughly balanced streams. In 2025, card payments brought in about $1.32 billion (£1.0 billion), interest income ~$1.29 billion (£974 million), subscriptions ~$935 million (£708 million), wealth (stocks, crypto, commodities) ~$875 million (£663 million) and foreign exchange ~$800 million (£606 million). Revolut Business adds account fees, card and merchant acquiring income, and a growing lending book reached ~$2.9 billion (£2.2 billion) in 2025.
Revolut historically favors organic internal engineering ("build") over large acquisitions ("buy"), utilizing selective M&A primarily for specialized technology tuck-ins, point-of-sale software, and acqui-hires to accelerate new product lines.
In December 2021, Revolut acquired Nobly POS, a leading cloud-based point-of-sale software company serving restaurants, cafes, and retailers across the UK, USA, and Australia. The deal accelerated the launch of Revolut's integrated in-person merchant payment terminals and hospitality software.
Revolut acquired Wanted, a specialized tech talent recruitment and referral platform, in 2021 as an acqui-hire to scale its global engineering recruitment pipeline during a period of hyper-growth.
In 2022, Revolut acquired Arbook, a micro-fintech developer specializing in accounting and financial automation tools, to integrate automated bookkeeping capabilities into Revolut Business.
Rather than acquiring legacy banks with outdated mainframe IT infrastructure, Revolut has applied directly for specialized and full banking licenses across Lithuania, the UK, Mexico, and other jurisdictions.
While Revolut has occasionally looked at distressed fintech assets, management consistently avoids acquiring competitors because integrating incompatible legacy architectures is considered more costly than organically acquiring users through marketing.
Nobly's software was integrated into the Revolut Business ecosystem to power the Revolut Reader and countertop POS hardware, enabling merchants to manage table orders, inventory, and payment clearing in a unified dashboard.
Revolut uses small talent acquisitions to bring experienced engineering teams in specialized domains like algorithmic trading, machine learning, cryptography, and regulatory compliance into its London, Berlin, and Krakow tech hubs.
Revolut has evaluated crypto custody and blockchain analytics acquisitions, but has primarily built its proprietary Revolut Ramp (fiat on-ramp) and Revolut X standalone crypto exchange internally.
With substantial cash reserves, Revolut's corporate development team focuses on acquiring mortgage origination platforms, AI-driven credit underwriting software, and regional merchant payment service providers in high-growth markets like Latin America and Southeast Asia.
Revolut has funded its acquisitions using a combination of cash from operations and private equity-backed company equity shares.
While multiple UK fintechs and banks evaluated SVB UK, Revolut declined to submit a rescue bid, and the institution was ultimately acquired by HSBC UK for £1, as Revolut focused strictly on retail and SME digital super-app operations.
