Company History
Founded 2018 in San Francisco, California, United States
In 2017, Christina Cacioppo was a product manager at Dropbox, working on Dropbox Paper and enterprise collaboration tools. Whenever her team built an enterprise-facing feature, they encountered an enormous commercial barrier: enterprise procurement teams refused to sign contracts without rigorous SOC 2 security certifications. Seeing engineering and product momentum grind to a halt while teams manually gathered audit spreadsheets, Cacioppo realized that every B2B cloud software company on earth was wasting thousands of engineering hours on identical manual audit checklists. Partnering with former Dropbox engineer Matt Johnson, Cacioppo founded Vanta in 2018 and entered Y Combinator (W18). Instead of raising massive venture capital immediately, Cacioppo bootstrapped Vanta during its first two years, obsessively writing code, visiting audit firms, and personally onboarding early tech startups. By 2021, Vanta had achieved phenomenal product-market fit, generating tens of millions in ARR almost entirely through word-of-mouth recommendations among founders and CTOs. Sequoia Capital partner Andrew Reed led Vanta's $50M Series A in 2021, followed by a $110M Series B in 2022 and a $150M Series C in 2024 valuing the company at $2.45 billion.
Since its establishment in 2018, Vanta expanded from an early-stage venture into a recognized leader in Automated Security Compliance, Continuous Trust Management, Cloud Security Posture, Governance Risk & Compliance (GRC), Enterprise SaaS, overcoming key market challenges.
Over its history, Vanta executed decisive strategic pivots toward scalable monetization and digital distribution, securing its current market leadership.
By continually modernizing operations and embracing workflow automation, Vanta maintains resilience through changing technological and economic cycles.
