Founding Story

In 2012 Prabhkiran Singh and Siddharth Munot, batchmates from IIT Bombay, put bewakoof.com live on 1 April, a date Singh said was chosen to match the brand name's joke. It was Singh's third attempt at a business. He had run Khadke Glassi, a fresh lassi venture started in 2010 that closed after three years because demand in Mumbai was seasonal, then a short lived B2B merchandise business that became the base idea for Bewakoof. The founders chose to sell expression on clothing because, as Singh put it, customisation had a market that no brand was catering to, and they ran the launch themselves with two founders and two interns.

Founders

Prabhkiran Singh

Prabhkiran Singh co-founded Bewakoof with IIT Bombay batchmate Siddharth Munot and put bewakoof.com live on 1 April 2012. Early venture investors would not back what they called an internet brand, so the founders mortgaged family property and borrowed from SBI and PNB, growing the business through an online Bewakoof magazine and a Facebook page that reached 75,000 followers in about a month with a team of two founders and two interns. Singh kept sales on the company's own site and app rather than marketplaces, raised Rs 80 crore from Investcorp in October 2019, extended the catalogue into beauty with Cosmos in July 2021, and sold majority control to Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail's TMRW for Rs 200 crore in a deal that closed in February 2023. He announced his exit on 24 February 2026 and left at the end of that March, holding 12.5 percent of the company as of the FY2025 filings. (Exact birth year remains publicly undisclosed).

Siddharth Munot

Siddharth Munot co-founded Bewakoof with Prabhkiran Singh in Mumbai in 2012 and worked on the brand through its unfunded early years, when the two mortgaged family property and relied on bank debt because venture investors would not back the business. No date has been reported for his departure from the company. (Exact birth year remains publicly undisclosed).
