Company History
Founded 2015 in San Francisco, California, United States
In 2015, Jack Altman had recently left his role as Vice President of Business Development at Teespring, while Eric Koslow was an early engineering lead at Teespring. Both founders observed that as high-growth startups expanded from 20 to 200 employees, company culture and alignment deteriorated rapidly: employees felt disconnected from company goals, managers lacked tools to conduct meaningful 1-on-1 check-ins, and performance feedback arrived months too late. Backed by Y Combinator and angel funding from tech luminaries, Altman and Koslow incorporated Lattice. They initially built an Objectives and Key Results (OKR) goal-tracking tool. However, as they listened to hundreds of human resources leaders, they discovered that goal tracking was only one symptom of a much larger problem: companies had no modern software to manage the entire lifecycle of employee performance and growth. Pivoting in 2017 to launch continuous performance reviews and 1-on-1 meeting workflows, Lattice struck a chord with high-growth tech companies. By treating HR software with consumer-grade design elegance, Lattice grew rapidly from Silicon Valley startups to Fortune 500 enterprises.
Jack Altman is an American entrepreneur, investor, and business author who co-founded Lattice in 2015 and served as its CEO until 2024, currently serving as Executive Chairman. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Altman graduated from Princeton University with a degree in economics. Prior to founding Lattice, he served as Vice President of Business Development at Teespring during its hypergrowth phase and co-founded Hydrazine Capital. In 2015, Altman co-founded Lattice, leading the company through Y Combinator and scaling it into a $3.0 billion market leader with over 5,000 corporate clients. The author of 'People Strategy: How to Invest in People and Make Culture Your Competitive Advantage', Altman is a prominent thought leader in organizational psychology and an active Silicon Valley angel investor.
Eric Koslow is an American software engineer, systems architect, and technology entrepreneur who co-founded Lattice in 2015. Koslow earned a degree in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University and served as an early engineering lead at Teespring alongside Jack Altman. At Lattice, Koslow architected the foundational software infrastructure, designing the flexible, graph-based data schema that allowed Lattice to seamlessly interconnect performance evaluations, OKR goals, 1-on-1 meeting agendas, and compensation models. As CTO, Koslow led engineering through the platform's hypergrowth before transitioning to advisory roles.
Since its establishment in 2015, Lattice expanded from an early-stage venture into a recognized leader in HR Tech, People Management, Performance Management, Employee Engagement, Compensation & Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), overcoming key market challenges.
Over its history, Lattice executed decisive strategic pivots toward scalable monetization and digital distribution, securing its current market leadership.
By continually modernizing operations and embracing workflow automation, Lattice maintains resilience through changing technological and economic cycles.
