Founders
· Founded 2019 · Bengaluru, Karnataka, India
In 2018, while serving as Managing Director of PayU India following the acquisition of his company Citrus Pay, Jitendra Gupta found himself talking to hundreds of millennial software engineers and corporate workers across Bengaluru and Mumbai. Despite earning six-figure salaries, these young professionals had virtually zero financial organization: their money sat idly in low-interest savings accounts, they struggled to track monthly food and shopping expenses, and they dreaded visiting physical bank branches. Gupta realized that the legacy banking architecture was broken: banks treated customer deposits as cheap raw material to fund corporate loans, viewing retail customer service as an expense to be minimized. In early 2019, Gupta teamed up with corporate legal expert Vishnu Jerome to incorporate Amica Financial Technologies in Mumbai. Gupta's vision was to build the 'Nubank of India'—an intelligent, human-centric neobank that used technology to help consumers master their money. Investors were so confident in Gupta's track record that Jupiter raised an unprecedented $24 million Seed round before launching a single line of code, backed by Sequoia India, Matrix Partners, and 3one4 Capital. Launched publicly in 2021 in partnership with Federal Bank, Jupiter became a viral sensation, acquiring over 500,000 customers in its first six months.
