Dario Amodei
Background
Dario Amodei holds a Ph.D. in physics from Princeton University, where he studied biophysics and neural networks, following undergraduate studies at Stanford. He completed postdoctoral research in molecular biology and computational genetics at Stanford School of Medicine.
Role at Anthropic PBC
Dario Amodei is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Anthropic PBC. Widely regarded as one of the preeminent minds in modern artificial intelligence, Amodei previously served as the Vice President of Research at OpenAI. At OpenAI, he directed the core teams responsible for developing GPT-2 and GPT-3, as well as pioneering foundational research into AI scaling laws and reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF). Driven by deep-seated convictions regarding the necessity of mathematical alignment and verifiable safety standards in frontier models, Amodei departed OpenAI in late 2020 alongside senior research colleagues to establish Anthropic as a Public Benefit Corporation. Under his leadership as CEO, Anthropic has raised more than $12 billion in institutional capital, secured anchor cloud infrastructure partnerships with Amazon and Google, and developed the Claude family of foundation models. Amodei is an active voice in international AI governance, having testified before the United States Senate Judiciary Committee and consulted with heads of state on frontier AI risk mitigation.
