Noam Shazeer
Background
Noam Shazeer holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and computer science from Duke University. He joined Google in 2000 as one of its earliest software engineers, spending over two decades at Google Brain where he co-authored 'Attention Is All You Need' (inventing the Transformer), pioneered Mixture of Experts (MoE), and co-created LaMDA.
Role at Character.ai
Noam Shazeer is the co-founder and former Chief Executive Officer of Character.ai. Widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of modern deep learning, Shazeer was instrumental in creating the foundational architectures that power modern AI.
At Character.ai, Shazeer architected hyper-efficient custom inference engines that enabled millions of concurrent conversational dialogues at minimal compute cost. In August 2024, following a landmark licensing deal between Google and Character.ai, Shazeer rejoined Google DeepMind as a Technical Lead on frontier model scaling.
