Company History
Founded 2007 in Vancouver, Washington, United States
In 2006, Henry Schuck, a working-class college graduate from Las Vegas, was working as a junior sales research analyst in Maryland while attending law school at American University Washington College of Law. Schuck's daily job was to call IT departments across the United States, ask who the Chief Information Officer was, and compile contact lists for enterprise software companies. Schuck was appalled by how broken the industry was: companies paid tens of thousands of dollars for CD-ROMs filled with outdated contacts and disconnected numbers. Schuck realized that if a company could provide 95% accurate org charts with direct phone extensions, sales teams would pay virtually any price. In 2007, at age twenty-three, Schuck teamed up with colleague Kirk Kosinski to launch DiscoverOrg. With no outside venture capital and just $25,000 borrowed on personal credit cards, the co-founders worked eighteen-hour days out of a tiny apartment. Schuck attended law school classes in the morning, spent afternoons cold-calling software executives to sell subscriptions, and spent nights manually verifying contact details on LinkedIn and company websites. DiscoverOrg operated profitably from its very first month. Within five years, DiscoverOrg was generating tens of millions in recurring revenue with zero outside funding, establishing an unshakeable customer-funded culture of capital efficiency and extreme operational execution.
