Tally Solutions was founded in 1986 in Bangalore, India, by Shyam Sunder Goenka and his son Bharat Goenka under the initial name Peutronics. Bharat Goenka co-founded Tally Solutions in 1986. A self-taught, absolutely brilliant programmer, he was tasked by his father to create accounting software for their struggling textile business. He built an incredibly simple, highly intuitive MS-DOS program that completely eliminated the need for accountants to understand complex coding, absolutely revolutionizing Indian business operations. Goenka was born on August 19, 1955. He received the Padma Shri from the Government of India in 2020 for his contribution to trade and industry. Bharat Goenka was born in 1962.

Shyam Sunder Goenka co-founded Tally Solutions in 1986. Running a highly complex textile machinery business in Bangalore, he was deeply frustrated by the complete lack of simple, reliable accounting software in India.
