Salvatore Sanfilippo (antirez) was born in Sicily, Italy. A self-taught systems programmer, security researcher, and creator of the hping security auditing utility, he conceived Redis in 2009.
Role at Redis, Inc.
Salvatore Sanfilippo is the creator and original architectural author of open-source Redis. Rejecting complex relational models, Sanfilippo designed Redis to store rich data structures directly in memory, pioneering sub-millisecond execution speeds. He led open-source development of Redis for over a decade with funding from VMware, Pivotal, and Redis Labs before stepping down as maintainer in June 2020.
