Acquired Bengaluru rival cab aggregator.
Removed a domestic competitor during the early fight with Uber.
Brand later shut down and merged into Ola.
Ola's current strategy is retrenchment around ride-hailing: it exited the UK, Australia and New Zealand in April 2024, shut used cars, cloud kitchens, grocery and ONDC food and commerce, cut staff, and moved drivers to zero-commission subscriptions. Growth bets now sit in higher-margin adjacencies such as advertising, enterprise contracts and financial services, with a planned IPO as the funding route.
Ola is an asset-light marketplace: independent drivers own their cars, autos and bikes, and Ola supplies demand, dispatch, maps and payments. Historically it took a 15-20% commission on each fare. During FY26 it rolled out a pan-India zero-commission model in which drivers pay fixed daily or monthly subscriptions instead. That trades variable commission income for steadier platform fees, so Ola is building advertising, financial services (via Ola Financial Services, which holds a prepaid payment instrument licence), enterprise travel contracts and subscriptions as additional revenue lines.
TaxiForSure in 2015, in a deal reported at about $200 million.
Ola bought it in an all-stock deal in 2017 and later exited food delivery.
The 2021 deal added geospatial expertise that fed into Ola Maps.
In March 2015, Ola acquired its primary domestic rival TaxiForSure for $200 million in a cash-and-stock deal. The buyout instantly eliminated a major price-war competitor, expanded Ola's driver supply by 15,000 cabs, and secured over 80% market share in Indian ride-hailing against Uber.
In December 2017, Ola acquired Foodpanda India from Delivery Hero with plans to invest $200 million into food delivery. However, intense capital burn against Swiggy and Zomato caused heavy losses, leading Ola to shut down Foodpanda's marketplace in 2019 and pivot to cloud kitchens (Ola Foods).
In April 2018, Ola acquired Mumbai-based public transport ticketing app Ridlr to integrate bus and metro train schedules into the Ola app, aiming to create a unified multimodal urban mobility platform across Indian cities.
In October 2021, Ola acquired Pune-based geospatial services provider GeoSpoc. GeoSpoc's mapping and location algorithms became the core foundation for Ola Maps, enabling the company to replace Google Maps and power navigation for millions of vehicles.
Ola attempted to build an in-house used car retail marketplace called "Ola Cars" in 2021, investing heavily before abruptly shutting the division down in 2022 to consolidate capital around core mobility and electric vehicles.
