ERX (KuCoin Thailand)

2025

Why

Thailand-based digital token exchange license.

KuCoin's Growth & Acquisition Strategy

Under BC Wong, a lawyer and former chief legal officer, KuCoin has made licensing the centre of its strategy. Moves since 2025 include KuCoin Thailand with SEC-supervised ERX (April 2025), AUSTRAC registration and an Australian derivatives arrangement (November 2025), a MiCA CASP licence for KuCoin EU Exchange GmbH in Austria (November 2025), a $2 billion trust programme announced at Consensus Hong Kong 2026, and admission to Nigeria's SEC incubation programme (July 2026). Mandatory KYC now applies to most services.

How KuCoin Makes Money

KuCoin makes money mainly from transaction fees. Spot trades start at 0.1% maker/taker for standard pairs, with discounts for high-volume VIP tiers and for paying fees in KCS. Perpetual and delivery futures charge lower per-trade rates but carry far higher volume, so derivatives are a major fee source. Margin borrowing generates interest spreads, and KuCoin Earn, P2P, OTC desks, withdrawal fees and token-launch programmes add further income. Built-in trading bots are free to set up but every order they place pays normal trading fees. KCS, the exchange token, ties customers to the platform through fee discounts and a holder bonus funded from a share of trading fees. KuCoin does not publish audited financial statements.

KuCoin Acquisitions FAQ

Has KuCoin made major acquisitions?

No large acquisitions have been disclosed. Its best-known deal was a $3 million investment in Bitcoin Australia in 2018.

How does KuCoin enter new markets?

Through local entities and partners, such as KuCoin EU Exchange GmbH in Austria, ERX in Thailand and Echuca Trading in Australia.

What are KuCoin Ventures and KuCoin Labs?

They are the group's investment and incubation arms for early-stage crypto projects.

What companies has KuCoin acquired?

Unlike traditional tech companies, KuCoin rarely executes total corporate buyouts. Instead, they operate "KuCoin Labs," a massive venture capital arm. They use their massive trading profits to invest millions into highly unproven Web3, NFT, and GameFi startups. This ensures that KuCoin gets exclusive, early access to list the startup's tokens on their exchange for massive profit.
