What did Dunzo do?

Dunzo let city users order from local stores, send items across town with a delivery partner and, from 2021, get groceries in 15 to 20 minutes through Dunzo Daily dark stores. It also offered on-demand delivery to businesses.

How did Dunzo make money?

It charged delivery and service fees, earned merchant commissions and B2B delivery fees, and sold products through Dunzo Daily. Product sales were about $16.4 million (₹141 crore), or 62%, of FY23 revenue.

Why did Dunzo fail?

The move into dark stores came just before the 2022-23 funding slowdown. Rivals Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart and Zepto had more capital, and Dunzo spent about ₹9 for each rupee of operating revenue in FY23. Without new funding it delayed salaries, cut staff and fell behind on vendor dues.

Who owns Dunzo now?

Reliance Retail held about 25.8%, alongside Google and other investors, but wrote off its stake. Under insolvency, a resolution professional manages the company while creditors' claims are decided.
