Founding Story

In 1985, 23-year-old law student Dan Gilbert, working alongside his brother Gary and partners Ron Berman and Lindsay Gross, realized that the traditional mortgage process was plagued by sluggish bank bureaucracy. They launched Rock Financial in suburban Detroit, focusing on direct consumer telephone sales and faster processing. In 1999, recognizing the dawn of the internet, they launched Rockloans.com, quickly catching the attention of Intuit, which bought the firm and rebranded it Quicken Loans before Gilbert repurchased it in 2002 to build an online lending empire.
