Company History
Founded 2019 in New York, New York, United States
Ramp was founded in 2019 by Eric Glyman, Karim Atiyeh, and Gene Lee. Glyman and Atiyeh had previously co-founded Paribus, an automated consumer price-protection app that monitored online shopping receipts and automatically filed for price adjustments, which they sold to Capital One in 2016. While working inside Capital One, Glyman and Atiyeh observed a glaring moral hazard at the heart of commercial credit cards: card companies made their money purely on transaction volume, meaning their business models were designed to encourage wasteful corporate spending through points and perks. Realizing that chief financial officers desperately wanted the exact opposite—a tool that actively helped them spend *less*—the founders partnered with designer Gene Lee and launched Ramp. Backed by Keith Rabois at Founders Fund, Ramp debuted its corporate card in early 2020. Despite launching just weeks before pandemic shutdowns, Ramp's software-first focus on cost-cutting resonated with businesses navigating economic uncertainty, sparking viral word-of-mouth adoption among CFOs across America. In 2018, inside the headquarters of Capital One, Eric Glyman and Karim Atiyeh were troubled. Having sold their price-tracking startup Paribus to the banking giant, the two Harvard-educated founders spent two years studying the inner workings of commercial credit cards. They saw an industry that made billions off customer confusion: commercial banks deliberately designed confusing rewards programs to encourage companies to overspend, while charging exorbitant fees and providing zero tools to control costs. In early 2019, Glyman and Atiyeh quit. Moving to New York City, they reunited with designer Gene Lee and founded Ramp. Their vision was simple: build a corporate card that does what no bank had ever dared to do—help businesses spend less money. That audacious promise ignited the fastest-growing enterprise software revolution in American corporate history.
Eric Glyman is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ramp Business Corporation. While working at Capital One following the Paribus acquisition, Glyman developed deep insights into how traditional banks profit from customer financial inefficiency. In 2019, alongside longtime collaborator Karim Atiyeh, Glyman founded Ramp with a contrarian vision: to build the first financial institution that wins when its customers spend less. Under Glyman's relentless, customer-aligned leadership, Ramp became the fastest software company in US history to reach $100M in ARR, scaling past $300M ARR at an $8.0 billion valuation, serving tens of thousands of businesses. Glyman is widely celebrated as one of the premier fintech innovators of his generation. Glyman's visionary, customer-aligned leadership made him one of the most celebrated financial technology entrepreneurs of the modern era. Guided by an obsession with customer efficiency and radical transparency, Glyman steered Ramp through the COVID-19 pandemic, the Silicon Valley Bank banking crisis, and the 2023 tech reset, building the company from a contrarian idea into an $8.0 billion software powerhouse generating over $300M ARR ahead of an initial public offering.
Karim Atiyeh is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Ramp. An extraordinary computer scientist and machine learning systems architect, Atiyeh designed Ramp's automated expense engine from the ground up. At Ramp, Atiyeh led the development of the neural OCR receipt matching pipeline, built the real-time balance underwriting algorithms, and oversees core engineering and artificial intelligence infrastructure, turning complex corporate accounting workflows into elegant, automated software experiences. At Ramp, Atiyeh's computer science genius was the engineering engine behind the platform's rapid rise. Combining machine learning with financial systems engineering, Atiyeh designed the neural OCR receipt matching algorithms, built the real-time balance risk models that eliminated personal founder guarantees, and directs the artificial intelligence infrastructure that powers Ramp Intelligence and Bill Pay.
Gene Lee is a co-founder and former Head of Product Design of Ramp. A brilliant product designer, Lee was instrumental in crafting Ramp's minimalist, high-speed user interface. At Ramp, Lee designed the intuitive card management dashboards and receipt capture workflows that made corporate accounting effortless for non-technical employees, setting the visual design standard for modern enterprise fintech. At Ramp, Lee established the aesthetic and functional design philosophy that set Ramp apart from clunky enterprise financial software. Drawing on human-computer interaction principles, Lee crafted the minimalist, high-speed card management dashboards and one-click receipt capture workflows that turned tedious corporate expense reporting into an effortless, delightful user experience.
