Founding Story

In 2017, Bhavish Aggarwal, co-founder of Indian ride-hailing pioneer Ola Cabs (ANI Technologies), recognized that India could not achieve sustainable urban growth while relying on imported petroleum and polluting internal combustion engines. Aggarwal launched Ola Electric to build an electric cab and three-wheeler fleet. However, in 2020, Aggarwal executed a bold strategic pivot: recognizing that over 75% of Indian passenger vehicles were two-wheelers, he decided to bypass ride-hailing fleets and build an iconic, mass-market consumer electric scooter. In May 2020, Ola Electric acquired Dutch EV startup Etergo for its sleek chassis architecture. Aggarwal acquired 500 acres of land in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, and in less than nine months constructed the 'Futurefactory'—a multi-million-unit automated mega-plant powered by 5,000 robots. On August 15, 2021, Ola launched the S1 scooter, recording over 100,000 reservations in 24 hours and sparking the modern Indian EV revolution.
