Founded 1996 in Mumbai, Maharashtra & Bengaluru, Karnataka, India
In 1996, Indian engineering giant Larsen & Toubro established L&T Information Technology (later LTI) in Mumbai to deliver software engineering and ERP services to global industrial clients. Separately, in August 1999, ten technology veterans—led by Subroto Bagchi, Krishnakumar Natarajan, and Ashok Soota—founded Mindtree in Bengaluru with angel backing from Walden International, pioneering born-digital product engineering and human-centric corporate culture. In 2019, L&T executed a landmark hostile acquisition of Mindtree, purchasing Café Coffee Day founder V.G. Siddhartha's stake. In November 2022, L&T completed the historic operational merger of LTI and Mindtree, creating **LTIMindtree**—a unified $4.4B digital powerhouse uniting 82,000 engineers.
