Jack Dorsey
Co-Founder and CEO
Legacy
Jack Dorsey is the primary architect of Block's product identity, brand philosophy, and long-term strategic direction, including the company's commitment to Bitcoin as foundational financial infrastructure. He led Square from founding through IPO in 2015, through the Cash App expansion, and through the Afterpay acquisition. His decision to focus Block's resources on profitability after the 2022 market correction — including the significant workforce reduction of 2023 — was operationally unpopular but financially necessary. Dorsey's dual-CEO tenure at both Twitter and Square from 2015 to 2022 was widely criticized by investors in both companies as a source of divided attention, a criticism that appears well-founded in retrospect given the operational challenges both companies experienced during that period.
