Founding Story
Amjad Masad grew up in Amman, Jordan, and found that setting up a programming environment was harder than learning to code. In 2011 he built an open-source project that ran several languages in the browser, which led to jobs at Codecademy and then Facebook, where he worked on JavaScript tooling. In 2016 he left Facebook and started Replit with Haya Odeh and Faris Masad to make a full development environment available from a browser tab.
