Albert Bourla
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Legacy
Albert Bourla assumed the CEO role in January 2019 after serving as Pfizer's Chief Operating Officer and before that as head of multiple business units including the innovative health segment and the vaccines business. His tenure has been dominated by two defining strategic events: the COVID-19 vaccine development partnership with BioNTech, which generated more than $56 billion in combined Comirnaty revenues in 2021 and 2022 and established Pfizer as the world's largest pharmaceutical company by revenue for a brief period, and the $43 billion acquisition of Seagen in 2023, which represents the largest acquisition in company history. Bourla has publicly committed to rebuilding Pfizer's organic growth trajectory through oncology and pipeline productivity, while simultaneously managing the financial constraints created by Seagen acquisition debt.
