Agentic document intelligence platform.
Glean's growth comes from expanding inside large enterprises (moving from a single department to company-wide deployments), international expansion across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, and selling agents and model usage on top of search seats. It is also expanding its sales footprint, including a Nashville, Tennessee sales office announced in April 2026, and launched the Work AI Institute in late 2025 with researchers from Stanford and Harvard to publish guidance on enterprise AI adoption.
Glean sells enterprise software to large companies, usually through IT and CIO organizations, on multi-year contracts. According to CEO Arvind Jain (TechCrunch, May 2026), customers can choose a consumption-based model that charges per use, or a hybrid model that combines a fixed monthly fee per active user with separate usage fees for AI model consumption. Revenue therefore grows with seat expansion inside existing accounts and with how heavily employees and agents query the platform. Because part of the top line is usage-based, TechCrunch noted that some of Glean's reported $300 million is closer to an annualized run rate than classic subscription ARR.
As a high-growth private enterprise software company, Glean has focused primarily on organic technological development and internal AI research, while selectively monitoring the market for specialized talent and niche AI connector technologies.
Glean evaluates potential acquisition targets based on specialized domain-specific data connectors (e.g., proprietary legacy ERP and mainframe systems), specialized computer vision algorithms for scanned documents, and high-quality AI researcher talent.
Glean partners deeply with foundational model providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google), cloud hyperscalers (AWS, GCP, Azure), and data platform leaders (Databricks, Snowflake) to integrate best-of-breed technologies without the overhead of large corporate integrations.
Databricks Ventures participated in Glean's funding rounds, establishing a collaborative engineering relationship that allows Glean to natively index Databricks Lakehouse data and power joint enterprise AI customer deployments.
By publishing open developer APIs, standard webhooks, and SDKs, Glean enables enterprise customers and third-party SaaS vendors to build and maintain their own custom data connectors, scaling the platform ecosystem organically.
Glean attracts top engineers from Google, Meta, Apple, and OpenAI by offering the opportunity to work on foundational enterprise search problems, high-equity upside, top-tier engineering mentorship, and a collaborative startup culture.
If Glean pursues international M&A, key criteria would include localized enterprise customer bases, regional compliance certifications, and established sovereign cloud engineering infrastructure in Europe or Asia-Pacific.
By prioritizing organic development in its Palo Alto, New York, and Bengaluru engineering centers, Glean maintains a unified single codebase and microservices architecture, avoiding technical debt and disparate legacy stacks.
As a rapidly growing, highly focused startup, Glean has not executed massive corporate acquisitions. Instead, they are pouring hundreds of millions of venture capital dollars directly into internal engineering and hiring elite AI talent to aggressively build their own generative AI chat features.
