Founding Story
Delta began in 1925 as Huff Daland Dusters in Macon, Georgia, founded by agricultural scientist C.E. Woolman as the world's first commercial aerial crop-dusting company. To follow seasonal cotton farming, the company operated in the US South in summer and Peru in winter. In 1928, Woolman led a group of local investors to buy the company, renaming it Delta Air Service after the Mississippi Delta region. On June 17, 1929, Delta operated its first passenger flight from Dallas, Texas, to Jackson, Mississippi, carrying five passengers in a single-engine Travel Air monoplane.
