Company History
Founded 2017 in Roseland, New Jersey, United States
CoreWeave was founded in 2017 by Michael Intrator, Brian Venturo, and Brannin McBee. Originally commodities and energy traders at Hudson Ridge Asset Management in New York, the founders began experimenting with graphics processing units to mine Ethereum in a suburban New Jersey billiard hall, establishing Atlantic Crypto Corp. When the cryptocurrency market crashed in 2018-2019, rather than liquidating their equipment, the founders recognized an overlooked structural reality: modern visual effects, 3D animation, and scientific computing desperately needed affordable, high-performance GPU power, yet AWS and Google Cloud charged exorbitant prices for slow, virtualized instances. Rebranding as CoreWeave in 2019, they rebuilt their fleet into a bare-metal Kubernetes cloud. When the generative AI revolution ignited in 2022, CoreWeave was already the largest private operator of high-end NVIDIA GPUs in North America, perfectly positioned to capture the tidal wave of AI compute demand. In the freezing winter of 2017, Brian Venturo personally spent twelve-hour days in an unheated New Jersey garage, wiring together graphics cards, monitoring thermal dissipation with handheld temperature guns, and tuning motherboard BIOS settings to maximize parallel computational throughput. When Michael Intrator and Brannin McBee recognized that the global demand for parallel computing would soon expand beyond cryptocurrency into enterprise artificial intelligence, the three partners bet their entire personal net worth on acquiring commercial warehouse space and securing high-voltage power lines. That early physical experience in the trenches of hardware engineering and power distribution formed the foundational DNA that enabled CoreWeave to scale into a multi-billion-dollar hyperscaler.
Michael Intrator is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of CoreWeave, Inc. Leveraging his deep financial expertise in physical commodities, power trading, and capital allocation, Intrator recognized that GPU compute power would become the most valuable commodity of the 21st century. As CEO, Intrator steered CoreWeave through its high-stakes pivot from cryptocurrency mining in 2019 to specialized AI cloud infrastructure, negotiated the company's historic alliance with NVIDIA and Jensen Huang, secured over $12 billion in combined equity and debt financing, and orchestrated CoreWeave's multi-billion-dollar supply contract with Microsoft. Under his leadership, CoreWeave expanded from an entrepreneurial garage into a $19 billion hyperscaler titan with over $2.0 billion in annual revenue.
Brian Venturo is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of CoreWeave, Inc. A brilliant hardware systems architect, Venturo personally assembled CoreWeave's first GPU mining rigs in 2017 in a New Jersey garage, developing deep expertise in thermal dynamics, PCIe bandwidth, and power distribution. At CoreWeave, Venturo directs overall technical architecture, silicon procurement, and datacenter design. He pioneered CoreWeave's bare-metal Kubernetes platform and was the visionary who insisted on deploying non-blocking NVIDIA InfiniBand networking years before the generative AI boom, providing CoreWeave with the technological head start that allowed it to outperform AWS and Google Cloud on large-scale AI model training.
Brannin McBee is the co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer of CoreWeave, Inc. McBee directs corporate development, capital formation, strategic partnerships, and global real estate expansion. McBee was the financial architect behind CoreWeave's innovative GPU debt financing structures, convincing institutional giants Blackstone and Magnetar to underwrite billions in hardware-collateralized loans. He also leads CoreWeave's multi-billion-dollar European expansion, securing high-voltage datacenter locations across the UK and the Nordics.
