How Blue Origin Makes Money

Blue Origin earns money in four ways and reports none of them publicly. It sells New Glenn launches to commercial and government customers, including Amazon Leo (formerly Project Kuiper), AST SpaceMobile and NASA, and once the rocket is certified, the U.S. Space Force, which in April 2025 set aside up to seven national security missions worth about $2.4 billion. It sells BE-4 engines to United Launch Alliance, which uses two on every Vulcan. It is paid by milestone on NASA lunar contracts, chiefly the $3.4 billion Blue Moon human landing system award of May 2023 and a May 2026 Moon Base contract worth $234 million for each lunar terrain vehicle its Mark 1 lander delivers. Until January 2026 it also sold New Shepard suborbital seats and research payload slots; that program is paused for at least two years. The Wall Street Journal put 2025 revenue at about $800 million, with about $1.4 billion expected in 2026, figures the company has not confirmed. Two planned satellite networks, TeraWave for enterprise and government communications and Project Sunrise for computing in orbit, would add service revenue later in the decade.

Under Dave Limp, Blue Origin has narrowed its focus to orbital launch, the Moon and satellites. It cut about 10 percent of its staff in February 2025, with Limp saying the company had grown too fast and built up bureaucracy, and in January 2026 it paused New Shepard for at least two years to move people onto lunar work. It hired Tory Bruno from ULA to build a National Security Group aimed at Space Force business. The 2026 funding round is meant to pay for New Glenn production and launch rate, a Vandenberg pad, the Blue Moon landers and the TeraWave and Project Sunrise constellations. Limp has said he wants launch cadence to climb from hundreds to thousands of missions a year.
