What this ranking measures
This page ranks companies by market capitalisation — what public markets say the equity is worth — which is a different question from how much a company sells or earns. A distributor can book several hundred billion dollars of revenue and be worth a fraction of a chip designer with a tenth of the sales, so this ranking and the revenue ranking disagree by design.
Figures come from each company's own profile record rather than from a separate leaderboard file, so a number here always matches the number on the company page it links to. Market capitalisation is a point-in-time measurement: where the underlying record carries the date its figure was captured, the row prints that date, and where it does not, the row stays undated rather than borrowing one.
Private companies are included when a valuation is on record, and they should be read more cautiously than listed ones: a private valuation is set by the last funding round or a secondary sale, not by a continuous market, and it can stay unchanged on paper long after the business has moved. Listed companies are the opposite problem — their figures move every trading day, so treat any ranking of this kind as the shape of the market rather than today's quote.
