Founding Story
Larry Rossy (born 1942) founded Dollarama in 1992 after converting a family variety store in Matane, Quebec, into a single-price dollar retailer. He expanded Dollarama across Canada, partnered with Bain Capital in 2004, and took the company public on the Toronto Stock Exchange in 2009. He served as Chief Executive Officer until 2016 and Executive Chairman until 2018. Larry Rossy was inducted into the Canadian Business Hall of Fame in 2014 and appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 2018 in recognition of his business leadership and philanthropy.
