Operating as a highly loyal, deeply pragmatic subordinate to Saburo Uchida, Maeda aggressively joined the ambitious founding team in 1933 to help establish the Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory in Tokyo. Working intensely alongside Goro Yoshida in the small, highly crowded laboratory space, Maeda relentlessly executed the complex day-to-day manufacturing logistics required to successfully prototype Japan's absolute first 35mm rangefinder camera, the historic Kwanon.
