Founding Story
Dr. Paul A. Brown founded Metropolitan Pathology Laboratory in 1967, which was renamed MetPath in 1969. He built it around centralized, automated, high-volume testing for physicians' offices instead of small local labs. MetPath grew into one of the largest U.S. clinical labs before Corning Glass Works bought it in 1982. That business later became Quest Diagnostics.
