Nobuzo Tohmatsu

Nobuzo Tohmatsu held an incredibly unique, highly disciplined background as an admiral and paymaster in the Imperial Japanese Navy. This intense, decades-long military background managing massive, complex logistical supply chains and military accounting provided him with the absolute operational discipline and strategic vision required to build Japan's premier international auditing corporation from the ground up.

Nobuzo Tohmatsu was a highly distinguished Japanese accountant, a former Imperial Navy Admiral, and the founder of the firm that provided the 'Tohmatsu' name to the massive Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu network. Following an extensive military career where he managed naval supply lines and survived World War II as a rear admiral, Tohmatsu transitioned into civilian finance, becoming a CPA in 1952. In 1968, amid Japan's massive post-war economic boom, he co-founded Tohmatsu, Awoki & Co. with the strict vision of creating a world-class auditing practice. His firm eventually became a key international partner, officially cementing his name into the global Deloitte brand during the 1993 international merger.
