Matei Zaharia

Matei Zaharia possesses an absolutely elite academic background in large-scale computing and combinatorics, earning his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley after winning gold at the International Collegiate Programming Contest. Matei Zaharia is a brilliant Romanian-Canadian computer scientist and the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Databricks. While pursuing his Ph.D. at the legendary UC Berkeley AMPLab in 2009, Zaharia became deeply frustrated by the inefficiencies of the Hadoop MapReduce framework.
