Jared Tarbell joined the founding team shortly after launch, leaving a large salaried position as a contract programmer in Albuquerque to join the Brooklyn startup. He rented an apartment near the University of New Mexico for $600 per month while his counterparts in New York 'were living in shoeboxes.' He contributed to the early technical and creative development of the platform.

Jared Tarbell is an incredibly talented American generative artist, programmer, and one of the original four co-founders of the massive e-commerce platform Etsy. Shortly after Robert Kalin, Chris Maguire, and Haim Schoppik conceptualized an online marketplace for handmade goods in a Brooklyn apartment in 2005, Tarbell joined the founding team to provide absolute technical and creative reinforcement. Bringing an incredibly unique intersection of software engineering and artistic intuition, Tarbell was deeply instrumental in designing Etsy's initial user experience and coding the complex foundational architecture that supported thousands of early independent artisans. Before and during his tenure at Etsy, he was already highly renowned globally for his 'Complexification' project, using advanced algorithms to generate incredibly intricate digital art. Tarbell eventually departed the company to continue exploring his massive passion for generative programming and creative technology.
