George Touche

George Touche possessed a deeply entrenched background in aristocratic Scottish banking and early corporate finance. Following a rigorous apprenticeship in Edinburgh, his formative background navigating the highly complex financial networks of Victorian-era London and New York provided the exact strategic blueprint required to build one of the world's first truly international accounting partnerships.

Sir George Alexander Touche was a prominent 19th-century British accountant and a foundational founding figure behind the modern Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu global network. Educated in Edinburgh, Touche moved to London and established his own accounting practice, George A. Touche & Co., in 1899. He successfully expanded his firm internationally, forming a critical partnership in New York that laid the groundwork for the modern Touche Ross network. A highly influential figure in both finance and politics, he also served as a Conservative Member of Parliament and was knighted for his services. In 1989, his legacy firm officially merged with Deloitte Haskins & Sells, creating the massive modern Deloitte empire.
