Emmett Nicholas attended Duke University, earning a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He began his career as a software engineer at Microsoft before becoming a founding engineer at Stack Overflow. His time at Stack Overflow provided him with deep, hands-on experience in system architecture, database optimization, and managing high-scale user demand, perfectly equipping him to build Airtable's complex underlying relational database architecture.

Emmett Nicholas is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Airtable, the cloud-based relational database platform that revolutionized no-code enterprise software. Before Airtable, Nicholas gained deep technical experience managing high-scale system architecture as a founding engineer at Stack Overflow. In 2012, he teamed up with Howie Liu and Andrew Ofstad to embark on a highly ambitious, three-year period of 'quiet development isolation' to engineer a platform that could hide complex database structures behind a friendly spreadsheet interface. Since the platform's launch in 2015, Nicholas has driven the technological vision, ensuring that Airtable remains highly stable, scalable, and capable of supporting the massive, complex workflows of its Fortune 100 enterprise clients.
